The story of mental illness includes some amazing people. Maybe it’s your child, or your friend, or the woman on your bus. Maybe it’s you. Because mental illness is not someone else’s story. It’s a story that touches ALL of us.

However, there’s another important part of this story, and it’s why we are writing today to ask that you consider making a donation to NAMI Seattle. Because your financial support makes it possible for NAMI Seattle to:

• Build support groups for people to share their successes and setbacks and the day-to-day evidence that while recovery can be painful, recovery is real!

• Lead community education and media outreach to help people communicate with loved ones who struggle with mental health issues and to end the silence and stigma surrounding mental illness.

• Drive a legislative advocacy agenda that promotes and defends laws that help people access mental health services, while protecting the well-being of those affected by mental illness.

In the past few months, the mental health story has taken on greater urgency. As the federal government threatens to undo the tremendous gains in mental health access, we are strengthening our efforts to make sure that ALL people in the Seattle area are able to access the mental health services and support they need to lead a healthy, fulfilling life.

If you’ve supported NAMI Seattle in the past, we thank you and hope we can count on your gift to continue our work in the year ahead. And if you are new to NAMI Seattle, we welcome you to consider making a gift today.

From all of us at NAMI Seattle, thank you for being a part of this story of hope, resilience and recovery!

P.S. Act now and double your impact! Thanks to a $5,000 matching gift from a generous NAMI Seattle member, your gift goes twice as far - just visit www.namiseattle.org/give2017.
